This is a message to no one in particular.
Don’t let them steal your joy. They will try to do so, but don’t let them.
“They” and “them” can be whoever or whatever. It’s merely a personification to get the message across. For me it was a combination of the escalating war between the US and Israel against Iran, the broken American political and economic environment, a request for an unnecessary document made in a snarky way, an interrupted night of sleep, and dreading the prospect of an upcoming weekend trip.
As I felt my mood sink, I realized that I don’t have to tap into this negative energy. I’ve been enjoying reading some fiction lately, and I can tap into that instead. I was reading the Bible, and I was strengthened and comforted by the passages I was reading. And even when work can be frustrating and quagmire-like, I know my career goals and I’m making my way towards them.
I can retain my joy. I don’t have to let anyone take it.
And the same goes for you.
